Gray Heron: The Good Immigrant @Nichelino Lights Up Fest 2022
“Gray Heron: The Good Immigrant” work by Mrfijodor created on the occasion of the second edition of Nichelino Lights Up Fest 2022 in Nichelino (TO) (for which we thank Fiodor Verzola, the Nichelino alderman, and Karim, artistic director). Mrfijodor continues a season full of new interventions with a work in the Piedmont region, home of the Ligurian artist for several years now.
And just “home” is the concept investigated by Mrfijodor for “Gray Heron: the good immigrant” – “Gray Heron: the good immigrant.” The Gray Heron – in addition to being the symbolic migratory bird of the Turin area – is native to the more temperate regions of Europe and Africa and is the species of heron that travels the farthest north to the Arctic Circle.
A journey that Mrfijodor reinterprets in his work in a current and modern key: a lucid, articulate and tight composition of objects and “papers” that the modern migrant faces. A transparent critique of the condition of today’s migrants who often experience uncomfortable and inhumane situations in order to reach what they one day hope to call “home,” that which they-often for atrocious reasons, such as war-have been denied.
Not to mention the nature of our migratory bird, the subject of the work: an animal species that, like some situations experienced by migrants, is constantly threatened by the risk of capture, exploitation and extinction (due to climate change). Just as the human Gray Heron is forced to go the distance.
“Gray Heron: The Good Immigrant” di Mrfijodor è stata realizzata in occasione della seconda edizione di Nichelino Lights Up Fest 2022 a Nichelino (TO) (per cui si ringraziano Fiodor Verzola, l’assessore di Nichelino, e Karim, direttore artistico). Mrfijodor prosegue una stagione densa di nuovi interventi con un lavoro nel territorio piemontese, casa dell’artista ligure ormai da parecchi anni.
E proprio “casa” è il concetto indagato da Mrfijodor per “Gray Heron: the good immigrant” – “Airone Cenerino: l’immigrato buono”. L’Airone Cenerino – oltre ad essere l’uccello migratore simbolo del territorio torinese – è originario delle regioni europee più temperate e dell’Africa ed è la specie di airone che più si spinge a Nord, fino al circolo polare artico.
Un viaggio che Mrfijodor reinterpreta nella sua opera in chiave attuale e moderna: una composizione lucida, articolata e serrata di oggetti e “carte” che il migratore moderno deve affrontare. Una critica trasparente alla condizione dei migranti di oggi che spesso vivono situazioni disagianti e disumane per raggiungere ciò che un giorno auspicano di chiamare “casa”, quella che a loro – spesso per atroci motivi, come la guerra – è stata negata.
Senza dimenticare la natura del nostro uccello migratore, soggetto dell’opera: una specie animale che, al pari di alcune situazioni vissute dai migranti, è costantemente minacciata dal rischio di cattura, sfruttamento ed estinzione (a causa dei cambiamenti climatici). Così come l’uomo Gray Heron è costretto ad andare lontano.
